Aylin Erman, a Master’s graduate from the CommiSur Lab, has won first place for her oral presentation at the Medical Research and Innovation Student Association Annual Research Conference, hosted by the University of Ottawa Medical School. 

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Tino Kreutzer has joined the McGill Department of Pediatric Surgery as an affiliate member, as well as the CommiSur Lab. Dr. Kreutzer brings a wealth of expertise in creating scalable technical solutions for the health and humanitarian sectors, notably through his leadership with KoboToolbox, a widely-used humanitarian data management tool. His research focuses on developing methodologies for large-scale qualitative data collection and analysis using natural language processing (NLP). Additionally, Dr. Kreutzer is working on constructing a pragmatic ethical framework to address AI-related ethical issues in health and humanitarian responses. His extensive experience in humanitarian response and information management, combined with his innovative research, will significantly enhance our lab’s capabilities and impact.

Justina Seyi-Olajide, a senior pediatric surgeon and PhD student with the CommiSur Lab, has been appointed as a guest editor for a Springer Journal.
