Sacha Williams, a PhD student with the CommiSur Lab, has been accepted into the “Empowering Next-Generation Researchers in Perinatal and Child Health” (ENRICH) program under the “Recipients of External Awards in Perinatal and Child Health” (REACH) award. This acceptance highlights Sacha’s commitment to advancing research in perinatal and child health, reflecting the lab’s dedication to nurturing future leaders in these critical areas of pediatric surgery research.

Riya Sawhney, a PhD student in the CommiSur Lab, has been invited to speak at the CUGH Satellite Session on “Overcoming Key Structural Barriers to Equitable Global Health Clinical Education Exchanges.” This invitation recognizes Riya’s expertise and commitment to promoting equity in global health education, underscoring the lab’s dedication to addressing critical challenges in the field.

Developed with the  CommiSur Lab, this innovative platform aims to enhance simulation training by offering an immersive training experience for trauma teams. The recent CBC’s The National features highlights the impact of PetitVR in advancing pediatric trauma care. PetitVR was developed by Drs. Fabio Botelho, completing his PhD studies in Experimental Surgery at McGill University, his supervisor Dr. Dan Poenaru, pediatric surgeon, senior scientist at MUHC, and lead of the CommiSur Lab, in collaboration with PetitVR Inc’s co-founder and CommiSur’s Research Director, Elena Guadagno and UK’s i3 Simulations. PetitVR was also featured in Canadian Healthcare Technology.
