The awards recognized achievements across various categories, highlighting the diverse contributions of students within the lab. The recipients of this year’s awards are as follows:

  • Zanib Nafees, a PhD student, received both the CommiSur Children’s Voice Award and the CommiSur Clinical Research Excellence Award.
  • Sacha Williams, a PhD student, was honored with the CommiSur Global Equity Award.
  • Riya Sawhney, a PhD student, earned the CommiSur Interdisciplinary Research Award.
  • Justina Seyi-Olajide, a PhD student, was awarded the CommiSur Advocacy and Impact Award.
  • Ayla Grek, a PhD student, received the CommiSur Collaboration Award.
  • Dr. Fabio Botelho, a PhD graduate, was recognized with the CommiSur Surgical Innovation Award.

Dunya Moghul, a PhD student at the CommiSur Lab, recently served as the keynote speaker at the Gender Equity Initiative in Global Surgery Conference. Her address focused on critical issues and advancements in promoting gender equity within global surgery, demonstrating the lab’s active engagement in addressing significant societal challenges.

Sacha Williams, a PhD student at the CommiSur Lab, has been recognized with a high-profile distinction as a child health research trainee by the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC).
